Spokane Chiefs News Release

The Spokane Chiefs scored four power play goals and Jared Spurgeon and Tyler Johnson each had three points, including two goals apiece, as the Spokane Chiefs beat the Kamloops Blazers 5-1 on Friday night in the Spokane Arena. The win was Spokanes second in a row and they finished a four game home stand with three wins.

The first of the four power play goals, the most they have scored in a single game this year, came off of Spurgeons stick from the bottom of the right circle that whipped past Kurtis Muchas stick side at the 12:46 mark of the first period. At 17:15 Jared Cowen tipped in a Mitch Wahl shot for a 2-0 Spokane lead after one.

Kamloops scored their only goal at 6:50 of the second to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Chiefs scored three unanswered for the final score.

Tyler Johnson scored at 16:06 and 19:02, the first on a wrist shot after spinning off the left wing boards, the second on the power play that deflected in off the cross bar.

Spurgeon and Johnson capped their nights when the former scored at 18:29 on an assist from the later.

Kyle Beach and Mitch Wahl had three assists.

Spokane outhshot the Blazers 32-22 and were 4-5 on the penalty kill.

The Chiefs will travel to Everett on Saturday night at 7:30. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 7:00 with Comcast HockeyTonight on 1510 KGA.
