February 6, 2010 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release
Langley, B.C. - Mark Segal stopped 18 shots en route to his second career WHL shutout as the Vancouver Giants defeated the Everett Silvertips 1-0. Thomas Heemskerk earned second star of the night for his solid effort in goal stopping 39 of 40 shots faced. Everett's record moves to 3-2-0-0 against Vancouver this season. Heemskerk's strong game Friday night moves him to second in the WHL in save percentage, tied with Spokane's James Reid and right behind Everett's own Kent Simpson.
Everett and Vancouver skated to a scoreless first period. Heemskerk stopped all 10 shots faced while Segal made seven saves.
Strong goaltending from Heemskerk and Segal kept the game scoreless after 40 minutes of play. Vancouver held the lead in shots 26-16 after the second period.
James Henry scored the first goal of the night at 13:54 of the third period on the power play. Henry, with five seconds remaining on the power play, beat Heemserk with a one-timer for his 18th goal of the year. Heemskerk was pulled late in the game for an extra attacker, but Everett couldn't find the back of the net as Vancouver held on to a 1-0 victory.
This brings the Tips record to 33-18-2-1 with 69 points in 54 games played. Everett comes back to Comcast Arena tomorrow night to take on the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05 pm.
