Two Players Added To Admirals Roster

TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, announced today that defenseman David Hale has been assigned to the Admirals on a conditioning assignment. In addition, the Admirals announced today that they have signed forward Ryan Cruthers to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO). Both announcements came from Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton.
Hale, 28, is a 6-foot-1, 218-pound defenseman from Colorado Springs, Colorado. The seventh-year pro has appeared in 35 games with the Lightning this season, registering four assists and 23 penalty minutes. He is second on the Lightning among defensemen with an even plus/minus rating and is third in hits with 52. He has played in two games during the month of January.
In 298 career NHL games between Tampa Bay, Phoenix, Calgary and New Jersey, Hale has three goals and 21 assists with 234 penalty minutes. He has played in 17 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, recording two assists. He was drafted by New Jersey in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. He was acquired by the Lightning with Todd Fedoruk from Phoenix in exchange for Radim Vrbata on July 21, 2009.
Hale has also appeared in 62 career American Hockey League contests between the Albany River Rats and Lowell Devils, scoring four goals and nine assists. He was selected to represent PlanetUSA at the 2006 AHL All-Star Classic but was unable to play due to NHL recall.
Cruthers, 25, is a 6-foot-1, 186-pound forward from Farmingdale, New York. The second-year pro has appeared in 36 games this season with the ECHL's Reading Royals, scoring 11 goals and 27 assists. He currently ranks second in points and assists and is tied for third in goals with Reading. He also is tied for tenth in the ECHL in assists. Cruthers also appeared in four games with the CHL's Texas Brahmas earlier this season.
Cruthers has appeared in 105 career ECHL games between Reading, the Mississippi Sea Wolves and the Utah Grizzlies, posting 40 goals and 66 assists. Last season, he led Mississippi in goals (29), assists (37) and points (66) in 65 games. He represented the American Conference at the 2009 ECHL All-Star Game.
Cruthers also made his American Hockey League debut last season, appearing in nine games between the Lake Erie Monsters and Albany River Rats.
The Admirals will continue a seven-game road trip tomorrow night against the Hartford Wolf Pack. The puck drops at 4:00 p.m. and fans can follow the game on STAR 1310-AM, star1310.com or ahllive.com.
The Admirals kick off a six-game homestand at Scope on Wednesday, February 3, against the Hershey Bears.
