Sundogs Acquire Former NHL Draft Pick Chad Hinz

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - Arizona Sundogs Head Coach and General Manager Marco Pietroniro announced today the team has acquired veteran forward Chad Hinz from the Missouri Mavericks in exchange for future considerations.

Hinz, 30, tallied 29 points (9g/20a), 21 penalty minutes (PIM) and a plus-5 rating in 32 games with the expansion Mavericks this season before being traded to Arizona.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, native appeared in 54 games with the Oklahoma City Blazers during the 2008-09 season, averaging nearly a point per game and finishing second on the team in scoring with 17 goals and 36 assists.

A seventh round draft pick (187th overall) of the Edmonton Oilers in 1997, Hinz spent four full seasons and parts of six years in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hamilton Bulldogs and Toronto Roadrunners, recording 138 points (48g/90a) and 174 PIM.

In 2004-05, the 12-year-pro skated for Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Elite League, regarded as one of the top professional hockey leagues in all of Europe. In 29 contests, Hinz notched seven goals, 10 assists and 16 PIM with the Swedish club.

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-10, 205-pound forward played four seasons of junior hockey with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League (WHL), averaging more than a point per game in three of his four amateur seasons. Hinz collected 117 points (42g/75a) in his final junior campaign in 1998-99.
