Americans Drop Second Straight Game In Regulation To Jackalopes 5-1

December 22, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Allen Americans News Release

ODESSA, Texas - The Allen Americans lost their fourth and last regular season contest to the Odessa Jackalopes tonight 4-1 at the Ector County Coliseum. Allen closes the season series against Odessa 1-2-1 and has an overall record of 17-7-2 (36 points).

Despite outshooting the Jackalopes 13-9 in the opening frame, the Americans found themselves down by one after 20 minutes of play. Odessa's Jeff Pierce scored a goal on the only power play of the first at 9:46.

The second period looked hopeful for the Americans when Nino Musitelli lit the lamp at 6:02. The goal ended over four periods of scoreless play for Allen. Unfortunately for the club, its luck changed with a little over three minutes left in the middle frame. Mike Ramsay scored a shorthanded goal to give Odessa a 2-1 lead. Before the second ended, Brian Swiniarski and Kenny Bernard netted one a piece to make the score 4-1.

The Americans continued to fire pucks at goaltender Joel Martin in the third, but they wouldn't see the back of the net again. Alex Dunn grabbed another Odessa goal at 4:54 on the power play to bring the score to 5-1.

Chris Whitley played in his thirteenth straight game and made 34 saves. For the second straight game, the Americans outshot the Jackalopes, getting off 45 shots.

Up next for the Americans is the first contest in the North Texas Vintage Game Series with the Texas Brahmas Dec. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Allen Event Center. The Americans will don Dallas Blackhawks jerseys, and the Brahmas will wear Fort Worth Wings sweaters in a night commemorating DFW's minor league hockey rivalries of the old days. Allen then hosts Bossier-Shreveport at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 27.
