Martin's 44 Saves Highlights Odessa's 5-1 Win

(Odessa, TX) - Joel Martin stopped 44 shots and five different players scored for the Odessa Jackalopes, who defeated the Allen Americans on Tuesday night at the Ector County Coliseum by a 5-1 score. The win extends Odessa's win streak to five games and their first place lead in the Southern Conference to nine points over Allen with a 21-4-3 record.
The Jackalopes scored three goals in the final four minutes of the second period to take control of the game with a 4-1 lead. Mike Ramsay, Brian Swiniarski, and Kenny Bernard each scored for Odessa. Ramsay's was a shorthanded tally.
Jeff Pierce opened the scoring with the only goal of the first period at 9:46 deflecting a shot from the left point. It was his 14th of the season. Phil Plante and Mike Lesperance added the assists. The Jackalopes led, 1-0, after twenty minutes of play.
Allen's Nino Musitelli also scored in the second period at 6:02 to tie the game at 1-1. The goal snapped a 125:10 shutout streak by Odessa's Joel Martin.
In the third period, Alex Dunn made it a 5-1 lead for Odessa banging home a rebound in front of the net for a power play goal at 4:54. Ramsay and Kory Karlander added the assists.
Martin's start in net for Odessa marks the first time since October 17th that a Jackalopes goaltender started consecutive games. Martin and Juha Toivonen had been alternating starts for the majority of the year.
The Jacks return to the ice on Saturday as they host the Arizona Sundogs. Game time is 7:05 PM at the Ector County Coliseum. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jacks FM.
