Missouri's Doug Groenestege Wins Weekly Award

(Tempe, Arizona) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today that Missouri goaltender Doug Groenestege has been voted the winner of the CHL Performance of the Week for the week of December 7-13 for his 33-save effort in the Mavericks 1-0 shutout victory over Laredo on December 11.

The Stratford, Ontario native was on fire in the game from the onset making 14 saves in the opening period. Karl Sellan provided the only offense needed in the third period with a goal scored with less than five minutes remaining in regulation. The win was the Mavs league-leading third shutout as a team and for Groenestege it was his second, also tops in the league. For the season, Groenestege is 7-4-0 with a 3.24 goals against average.

The win was one of the most lopsided in the three-year history of the weekly poll as Groenestege garnered 83% of the 2,126 votes cast. Arizona's Chris Bartolone finished second in this week's voting for playing in his 1,000th professional game.

The nominees for the CHL Performance of the Week for week 10 of the season for the period beginning on December 14 and ending on December 20) are as follows:

-Laredo's Kyle Gajewski earning first pro shutout making 33 saves in 2-0 win at CRP on Dec. 17

-Amarillo scoring five second period goals in 6-3 win versus Laredo on Dec. 19

-Corpus Christi's Chad Woollard scoring his 300th professional goal on Dec. 18

-Odessa's Alex Dunn scoring OT winner in 3-2 triumph over ODE on Dec. 18

-Tulsa's Trevor Cann winning first CHL game making 28 saves in 2-1 win over AMA on Dec. 18

Fans can vote for the winner until Monday, December 28 with the winner being announced on Tuesday, December 29.
