Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose notched three goals in the third period to beat the Norfolk Admirals 4-1 in front of 3,614 spectators at Norfolk Scope Arena on Friday night. Aaron Rome scored a pair of goals while Matt Pettinger and Marty Murray both potted empty-netters. Goaltender Cory Schneider stopped 28 of 29 shots in his 13th win this season.

3:13 into the match-up, Darryl Bootland and Scott Jackson exchanged punches near centre ice. After a fair-fought battle, both attackers were handed five minutes majors while Bootland received an additional two minutes for roughing. The Admirals racked up two shots on the man-advantage but couldn't beat starting goaltender Cory Schneider.

The Moose opened the scoring at 14:17. Guillaume Desbiens carried the puck from behind Dustin Tokarski's net and fed it to Aaron Rome. The Manitoba-born defenceman blasted the puck from inside the blueline to beat the rookie tender on the club's seventh shot of the night.

Matt Pettinger's tripping penalty 4:52 into the second period, put the home team on their third man-advantage. Norfolk was able to take the shot count during the two-minute advantage, but failed to capitalize going zero-for-three.

At 12:12 Radek Smolenak attempted to sneak a wrap-around past the goal-line, but Schneider denied his attempt. The rebound, however, deflected off Nathan McIver and over top of Schneider to deadlock the game at one.

With Chris Lawrence serving time for hooking, the Moose put themselves on top late in the third period. Poised at the point, Aaron Rome fired the puck straight into the mesh for his second of the night, 2-1.

In the dying minutes, Norfolk pulled Tokarski in favor of an extra attacker. Despite the extra man on the ice, the Admirals had a defensive slip-up allowing Matt Pettinger to notch an empty-netter, 3-1.

With less than a minute left, Marty Murray found the empty net with a backhanded shot from centre to confirm the game, 4-1.

LOOKING AHEAD The Moose will close-out their first-ever season series tomorrow night against the Admirals.
