Hurricanes Recall Dwyer, Tlusty From Albany

RALEIGH, NC-Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled forwards Patrick Dwyer and Jiri Tlusty (YIH-ree T'LOO-stee) from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Rutherford also announced that the club will place forwards Erik Cole (upper body - expected to miss 2-3 weeks) and Chad LaRose (lower body - expected to miss 3-4 weeks) on injured reserve.

In a separate move, the Albany River Rats announced today that forwards Harrison Reed and Matthew Pistilli have been recalled from the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League.

This marks the second NHL recall this season for Dwyer. The Spokane, WA, native played in six games and averaged 10:53 of ice time per game during his first recall this season from Nov. 19-30. Dwyer, 26, has played in 22 AHL games with the River Rats this season, and ranks first among Albany skaters with 11 goals, and tied for second on the team with 18 points. Dwyer (5'11", 175 lbs.) originally signed with Carolina as a free agent in July 2006, and inked a new two-year contract with the club on July 1, 2009.

This marks Tlusty's first recall to the Hurricanes after Carolina acquired him from Toronto on Dec. 3, in exchange for the rights to center Philippe Paradis. The Slany, Czech Republic, native is in his third full professional season in North America, and has played in 74 career NHL regular-season games with the Maple Leafs, scoring 10 goals and earning 10 assists (20 points). In 106 career AHL regular-season games with the Toronto Marlies and Albany, Tlusty (6'0", 209 lbs.) has scored 43 goals and earned 60 assists (103 points), including eight goals and seven assists (15 points) in 20 games this season. The Maple Leafs drafted Tlusty in the first round, 13th overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Reed, 21, recorded 13 points (8 goals, 5 assists) in eight games since being assigned to the Everblades on November 24, 2009. Carolina's third round (93rd overall) selection in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft has two assists, two penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating in 19 games this season with Albany. The Newmarket, Ontario native totaled nine points (five goals, four assists) in 70 games with the River Rats last season as a rookie. Reed (6'1", 188 lbs.) totaled 178 points (69g, 109a) in 210 regular-season games with London, Sarnia and Guelph during his four year career in the Ontario Hockey League.

Pistilli, 21, played in three games with Florida after being loaned to the club on December 3, 2009. The Montreal, QC native has five points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 21 games with the River Rats this season. Pistilli (6'2", 219 lbs.) completed his fourth season of Junior hockey last year with Shawinigan, and led the Cataractes with 45 goals. He signed a three-year, two-way contract with Carolina as a free agent on May 20, 2009.

The River Rats begin another three-in-three weekend tonight at 7:00 p.m. when they host the East Division-leading Hershey Bears at the Times Union Center. Albany then welcomes Providence on Saturday, December 12th for a 7:00 p.m. start before traveling to Hartford on Sunday, December 13th to faceoff with the Wolf*Pack at 4:00 p.m. River Rats 2009-10 pro-rated season and flexible ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
