Chicago Wolves News Release

ROSEMONT, Ill.---The Chicago Wolves jumped out to a two goal lead just 2:16 into the contest, but watched it slip away as the Texas Stars rallied to take a 5-3 victory at the Allstate Arena Saturday night.

The Wolves came out of the gates firing, starting with Rylan Kaip's second goal of the season, 1:51 into the first period. Right wing Anthony Stewart chipped the puck out from behind the net and Kaip pounced on it and flipped it past Stars goaltender Matt Climie.

Chicago (12-12-0-1) made its lead two, 25 seconds later, when defenseman Steve McCarthy sent a shot from the blue line sailing through traffic that bounced up over Climie, but it wasn't enough to keep Texas out of the game.

"I thought we played a pretty solid, controlled game, but it was a four on four goal that was the difference," said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. "They are a very disciplined team and they are willing to take hits to make plays. We were never out of the game, and then we took late penalties and there's no excuse for that."

Texas (17-5-2-2) got on the board at 10:58 of the first period to cut the Wolves lead to 2-1. Right wing Sergei Korostin faked a shot from far circle, which pulled Wolves goaltender Peter Mannino out of position, and sent a pass across the top of the crease to a streaking Matt Beaudoin who pushed the puck into the open net.

The Stars Greg Rallo knotted the score, 2-2, when he drove into the Wolves zone and lasered a high shot over Mannino's left shoulder, 5:32 into the middle frame.

The Wolves regained the lead on the power-play, 10:19 into the second frame. Center Jason Krog found Tim Stapleton all alone in the slot and slipped the puck to the right wing, who wristed a shot past Climie top shelf, glove side.

Climie (7-5-2) turned aside 31 shots in backstopping the Stars to victory.

Texas drew even again, 3-3, with a tally from Maxime Fortunus with 3:17 left to play in the second frame. With Mannino screened by Fortunus and a Wolves defenseman, center Warren Peters flung a shot from near the blue line, which Fortunus was able to get his stick on and tip into the net.

The Stars took their first lead of the game, 4-3, after a rebound from a Rallo shot kicked straight onto the stick of Travis Morin, who popped it past Mannino at 18:30 of the middle stanza.

Mannino (3-2-0) posted 17 saves in the first 40 minutes before being replace by Drew MacIntyre, who stopped four shots in the third period.

An empty net tally by Aaron Gagnon iced the win for Texas at 19:36 of the final frame.

The Wolves return to action on Fri., Dec. 11, when they travel north to Canada for a matchup with the Toronto Marlies at Ricoh Coliseum at 6 p.m.
