Stars Shoot Past Wolves 5-3

Chicago, IL - The Texas Stars (17-5-2-2, 38 points) defeated the Chicago Wolves (12-12-0-1, 25 points) 5-3 on Saturday night in front of 6,094 fans at the Allstate Arena. Stars' forwards Greg Rallo and Aaron Gagnon each had a goal and two assists to lead Texas to a two-goal win in Chicago. Stars winger Travis Morin scored with 1:30 to go in the second period, giving Texas the lead for good. Forward Mathieu Beaudoin and defenseman Maxime Fortunus also scored for the Stars, who moved to 9-3-1-1 on the road this season. Texas goalie Matt Climie (7-5-2) stopped 31 Chicago shots for the victory. Wolves' goalie Peter Mannino (3-2-0) made 17 saves in the loss. The Stars will play at the AT&T Center in San Antonio on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
Chicago jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, scoring a pair of goals 25 seconds apart in the first period. Wolves forward Rylan Kaip scored his second goal of the season just 1:51 into the opening period, giving Chicago an early 1-0 lead. The Wolves would strike again at 2:16 off a deflection in front of the Texas net. Chicago defenseman Steve McCarthy blasted a shot from the blueline and the puck deflected off traffic and past Stars goalie Matt Climie for two-goal lead. Texas cut the Chicago lead in half at 10:58 off Matt Beaudoin's fifth goal of the year. Sergei Korostin and Mathieu Tousignant set up the goal, a tic-tac-toe passing play that ended with Beaudoin's fourth goal in his last two games.
Texas roared back with three goals in the second period. Greg Rallo netted his team-leading tenth goal of the year at 5:32 of the second period, tying the 2-2. The Stars winger snapped a wrist shot from the high-slot, past the glove of Chicago goalie Peter Mannino. Chicago would regain the lead with a power-play goal at 10:19. Tim Stapleton beat Climie with a wrist shot, his 12th goal of the year, giving the Wolves a 3-2 lead. The Stars answered back with a pair of goals late in the second period. Defenseman Maxime Fortunus tied the game 3-3 with his fourth goal of the year, a floater from the blueline that beat a screened Mannino at 16:43. Texas claimed its first lead of the night at 18:30, forward Travis Morin tallied his second goal of the year off a scramble in front of the Chicago net. Rallo and Aaron Gagnon each picked up an assist on the team's fourth goal of the night.
Gagnon tacked on an empty-net goal with 24 seconds remaining in the game for the 5-3 final. Rallo assisted on Gagnon's fifth of the year.
Prior to the game, Texas recalled defenseman Trevor Ludwig from the Idaho Steelheads (ECHL). Ludwig played in two games with one assist during his latest stint with the Stars. For the season, Ludwig has one assist in four games with Texas this season. The 24-year old has played in 13 games for Idaho this year, scoring a goal and adding five assists for six points. The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder also added 24 penalty minutes with the Steelheads this season and is a +9. Ludwig was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the sixth round (#183 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
After a three-game road trip, the Stars will begin a four-game home stand on Wednesday, December 9th at 7:30 pm against the Peoria Rivermen. Cedar Park Center will provide $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs for the game against Peoria. Texas will host Rockford on Friday, December 11th at 7:30 pm, and then again on Saturday, December 12th at 7:00 pm. Friday night, the first 3,000 fans to arrive will receive an inaugural season hockey puck and the Cedar Park Center will provide $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. On Saturday night, State Farm will feature its Family 4-Pack which includes four tickets, four hot dogs, and four soft drinks for $44.00. The first 2,000 fans to arrive at Cedar Park Center will receive a Texas Stars winter hat.
