Reid Blanks Regina

November 29, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL) Spokane Chiefs

James Reid and the Spokane Chiefs shutout the Regina Pats on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena as four different players scored goals in the 4-0 win. The victory was the Chiefs 16th of the year and after they began the season 6-6-1-0, Spokane went 10-2-1-0 in 13 games in the month of November. They now sit in third place in the U.S. Division, two points behind Portland with four fewer games played.

Tyler Johnson's sixth goal in his last five games was good enough for the game winner and the only goal scored in the first. He took a Jared Spurgeon pass in the slot and stickhandled around a defenseman before snapping it home inside the left post for his 15th of the year at 11:05.

In the second Kenton Miller took advantage of a misplay by a Regina defender in neutral ice and skated in for a breakaway goal at 2:10.

Spokane scored twice in the third, once by Steve Kuhn at 14:41 and then again by Ryan Letts, into an empty net, at 15:15. Miller and Johnson assisted on the final goal of the night.

The 18-year-old Miller and 20-year-old Spurgeon were on the ice for three of the four Chiefs goals.

Reid earned his third shutout of the season and lowered his goals against average to a league leading 2.03. His.929 save percentage is also tops in the WHL. He now has seven career shutouts.

Spokane has the next four days off before they skate at home on Friday night against the Seattle Thunderbirds on Coeur d'Alene Casino Night.

Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
