Hurricanes Recall Bryan Rodney From Albany

November 28, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL) Albany River Rats

RALEIGH, NC - Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has recalled defenseman Bryan Rodney from the Albany River Rats of the American Hockey League (AHL). Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen suffered an upper-body injury during Friday night's game against the Atlanta Thrashers and is unlikely to play tonight in Buffalo.

This marks Rodney's second NHL recall this season. He joined Carolina from Nov. 11-20, recording two assists and averaging 17:51 of ice time per game in five games. In 16 games on the AHL level this season, Rodney, 25, has scored one goal and earned five assists (6 points). The London, Ont., native is in his fifth professional season and his second with the Hurricanes organization after signing with the club as a free agent on May 12, 2008. Rodney (6'0", 195 lbs.) made his NHL debut with Carolina in 2008-09, and earned two assists in eight games with the Hurricanes last season. He has scored nine goals and earned 51 assists (60 points) in 124 career AHL regular-season games with Hartford and Albany. Albany plays the Admirals tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the Norfolk Scope. River Rats 2009-10 season and flex ticket packages are now on sale at the River Rats executive offices at the Times Union Center, by calling (518) 487-2244 or by logging onto www.albanyriverrats.com.
