Rapid City Rush News Release
(Wichita, KS) - The Rapid City Rush topped the Wichita Thunder 3-1 on Wednesday night for their first ever back-to-back road wins. The Rush were dominant on special teams once again, scoring two powerplay goals on five chances while holding the Thunder scoreless on seven powerplay opportunities. Rapid City is now 3-1-1 in their last five, including 2-0-1 in their last three road games to move to.500 away from the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
For the fifth straight game, the Rush scored the game's opening goal. Doing the honors for Rapid City was Luke Erickson who scored just 1:59 into the contest. Brendon Hodge created a turnover just inside the Thunder end which led to a give-and-go between Wray and Erickson to give the Rush a 1-0 lead. Rapid City would then double the lead at the 8:55 mark when Colt King deflected a shot home for his first of two. Rapid City's player-assistants Scott Wray and Brendan Cook assisted on the powerplay goal to make it 2-0.
King would then add another powerplay goal and collect his team-leading 11th of the season to lift Rapid City to the 3-0 lead. The goal was set up by Wray who collected his third assist of the game and Rich Hansen who fed the puck in front to King.
The Thunder received a breath of life at the 7:07 mark of the third as defenseman Jordan Little picked up his first point of the season to make it 3-1. Little sent home a rebound on a play assisted by Marc Belanger and Brad Thompson.
Powered by the goaltending of rookie Danny Battochio, the Rush held on for the 3-1 victory. The win marks the first ever back-to-back road wins for Rapid City who have now won three of their last four games.
The next home games for the Rush are Friday, November 27th at 7:05pm, and Saturday the 28th at 2:05pm against the Mississippi RiverKings. Tickets are still available for both contests.
