2009 Grey Cup Festival Kicks Off In Style At City Hall

November 25, 2009 - Canadian Football League (CFL)

The 2009 Grey Cup Festival was kicked off in style today as CFL Commissioner, Mark Cohon rode to the steps of Calgary's City Hall on board Kelly Sutherland's Champion Chuck Wagon racing team. The ten time world champion was thrilled to deliver the Grey Cup to the City of Calgary. Mayor Dave Bronconnier, Malcolm Kirk, Chairman of the 2009 Grey Cup Festival, Greg Albrecht, President of the Festival and Scott Ackles, President of the Calgary Stampeders all joined committee members, CFL brass, sponsors and fans to kick off the festivities.

"The City of Calgary is ready for the party" said Chairman Malcolm Kirk, "the Grey Cup Festival tradition was born in Calgary more than 60 years ago and we are so happy to be able to provide something for everyone this week. We look forward to delivering the best party Calgary has ever seen."

"There is no place we'd rather be than here in Calgary for Grey Cup," said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League. "This is where we celebrate our game, this is where we celebrate our country and this is where the two of them come together in a way that's great fun and uniquely ours."

Festival events begin tomorrow with the Gibson's Finest CFL Player awards and continue on throughout the weekend with the ENMAX Street Festival, Calgary Herald Family Fan Fest, Scotiabank CFL Experience and Molson Canadian Quick Six Saloon. Fans are reminded not to miss the return of the Safeway Grey Cup Festival Parade marshalled by Calgary's own Elisha Cuthbert at 11am on Saturday. The party doesn't slow down on Sunday with the McMahon Stadium pre-game party and for those that were unable to obtain a ticket to Canada's 97th Grey Cup Championship game, the Sport Chek Grey Cup Family Viewing party at Pengrowth Saddledome is the place to be.
