Wave at Rockford Preview

November 24, 2009 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Milwaukee Wave

Just how good are the Wave? You can't anoint a team a champion after one game, but it's hard to imagine a more impressive debut than Sunday's 15-0 whitewashing of Monterrey on the road. Eight of the 14 field players notched at least one point, the Wave killed off both La Raza power plays, scored a shorthanded goal and even managed to turn the Monterrey crowd in their favor. But it will take more games to see just where they sit in relation to the rest of the league.

Rockford also got off to a noteworthy start, going into Baltimore and beating the Blast 10-8 in overtime. Matt Stewart and Jamar Beasley present all kinds of problems with their speed, and goalkeeper Danny Waltman was merely the Most Valuable Player for XSL champion Detroit a year ago. He was the difference-maker a year ago and stopped 12 of 16 shots in Baltimore in the opener.

WAVE MILESTONE WATCH:

Keith Tozer: 400 career regular season victories with Wave (398)

Brett Wiesner: 100 games played (90)

Giuliano Oliviero: 1,000 career points (976)

UPCOMING WAVE SCHEDULE:

Sunday, Dec. 6: vs. La Raza de Monterrey, 2 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 12: vs. Philadelphia KiXX, 6 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 27: @ La Raza de Monterrey, 5 p.m.
