Erik Haula tallied a goal and three assists while Matt White chipped in a goal and two assists of his own as the Omaha Lancers powered past the Sioux Falls Stampede 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 15-2 overall and have now won 6 consecutive games at home.
Sioux Falls grabbed the game's opening marker late in period one when a series of failed Omaha clearing attempts led to a chance down low for Sam Coatta who made no mistake in sending in his 5th goal of the season. Anthony Day earned the only assist on the even strength goal tallied 16:14 into the first period.
Omaha's offense got rolling early and often in the 2nd period though as the Lancers erupted for a season-high five goals in the middle period. CJ Ludwig started the onslaught with his 2nd power play goal in as many games just 1:30 into the period. Haula and Joe Lavin grabbed the assists on Omaha's opening tally of the period. The power play pressure continued with man advantage goals from Dakota Eveland and Erik Haula over the next 10 minutes as the Lancers catapulted to a 3-1 advantage thanks to three consecutive Sioux Falls penalties. First, Eveland fired home his 7th goal of the season from the right wing and Haula followed that with his 9th marker of the year, which he banked off Stampede goaltender Clay Witt from behind the Sioux Falls net. White grabbed the only assist on Haula's tally and in doing so extended his personal scoring streak to 13 consecutive games. The Lancers closed the period with a pair of even strength markers from Lavin and White in catapulting to a 5-1 lead through two frames.
Omaha applied the final nail in the coffin late period three when Camden Wojtala chipped in his first career USHL goal. Tyler Lapic grabbed the only assist on the only goal scored in the final frame.
Jeff Teglia earned his 2nd consecutive victory in goal thanks to 30 saves 31 Sioux Falls shots. Teglia continues to pace all USHL netminders with 11 wins on the season.
The Lancers are back in action this coming Wednesday evening when they welcome the Waterloo Black Hawks to the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
