DURHAM, N.C. - Round Rock Express right-handed pitcher Sammy Gervacio ranked fourth on Baseball America's Top Prospects list for the Houston Astros, the publication announced Friday. Gervacio was the lone member of the Express on the 10-man list and one of only two players on the list who has advanced past Class A ball in his career.
A native of Sabana de la Mar, Dominican Republic, Gervacio was 2-2 with a 4.82 ERA in 39 relief appearances for the Express in 2009. He recorded 58 strikeouts against 21 walks in 52.1 innings. Gervacio was 1-0 with a 2.25 ERA in 8.0 innings over three relief appearances for the Express in 2008.
Gervacio was called up to the Astros in August; he made 29 relief appearances and was 1-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 25 strikeouts against eight walks in 21.0 innings. Baseball America projects Gervacio as the Astros' closer by 2013. The publication also projects three other 2009 Express members as Astros starters by that season: second baseman Tommy Manzella, third baseman Chris Johnson and No. 4 starter Bud Norris.
2010 season tickets are available through the Round Rock Express Ticket Office at 512.255.2255, or online at www.RoundRockExpress.com.
