Tyler Flowers Selected To Topps Double A All-Star Team

November 18, 2009 - Southern League (SL) Birmingham Barons

HOOVER - Tyler Flowers was named on the 2009 Topps Double-A All-Star Team when Minor League Baseball announced the list on Wednesday.

Rated the fourth best prospect in the Chicago White Sox at the beginning of the 2009 season, Flowers hit .302 with 13 home runs and 43 RBI in 77 games with the Birmingham Barons. The announcement marks the fourth All-Star team that the 23-year old catcher has been selected to in 2009.

Flowers was selected to start in the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game at Regions Park as well as the 2009 Major League Baseball Futures Game in St. Louis. The Marietta native returned to Birmingham in time for the Southern League All-Star Game but was unable to play due to his participation in the Futures Game. He was promoted to Triple A Charlotte before the Barons returned from the All Star break. Flowers was also selected as a Southern League Postseason All-Star at the conclusion of the season.

Flowers was originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 33rd round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft

before being traded to the White Sox on December 5, 2008 in a deal that sent Javier Vazquez to Atlanta. Flowers was named to the Carolina Post-Season All-Star team in 2008 as well as the Arizona Fall League All-Prospect team in December 2008.

He is joined on the list by fellow Southern Leaguers Ezequel Carrera (West Tenn), Desmond Jennings (Montgomery) and Travis Wood (Carolina). The Southern League and Eastern League each had four representatives on the All-Star team while the Texas League had two.

The Birmingham Barons will begin their 2010 season on Thursday, April 8 when the Carolina Mudcats come to Regions Park for a 7:05 PM contest. Season ticket plans as well as mini plans are currently available online. Fans can also obtain ticket plans over the phone or by visiting the Regions Park Box Office.
