November 16, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL) Lethbridge Hurricanes

Lethbridge, AB - The Hurricanes had a huge win to start the week as they knocked off the 7th ranked team in the CHL the Calgary Hitmen 3-2 at the ENMAX Centre before a trio of tough losses this past weekend. In the end, the Canes managed to get three of a possible eight points last week to bring their overall record to 8-13-3-0 and a 4-4-2-0 record in their last ten games. Captain Carter Bancks continues to lead the team with 26 points (8G, 18A) while Carter Ashton saw his nine game point streak come to an end on Sunday totaling 14 points (5G, 9A) during that span. But the story remains the performance of the Canes rookies as WHL rookie Mitch Maxwell leads all Canes rookies with 18 points (13G, 5A) in 22 games and just came off a five game goal streak; the longest this season in the WHL. His 13 goals lead all Canes scorers and are good for second in the WHL rookie goal scoring race. Rookie goaltender Brandon Anderson, posted an impressive 44 save performance in Sunday's loss and rookie d-man Landon Oslanski currently leads the team with a plus-5 +/- rating.

Honor Rollers: The Canes currently have four players: Carter Ashton, Carter Bancks, Mitch Maxwell and Craig Orfino who have attained honors standing in their mid term grades at Lethbridge College with 1 player - Linden Rowat who has attained first class honors. The Hurricanes would like to congratulate all of these individuals on excelling as student athletes.

The Canes take on the Raiders in a Wednesday night match up as Prince Albert will sail into town for the first of two visits to Lethbridge this season. Lethbridge had a 2-2-0-0 record against the Raiders last season and a 1-1-0-0 record at home. In these teams last meeting of 08-09 the Canes pulled off an amazing comeback to notch a 4-3 shootout win. Cam Braes and Kyle Beach tallied with under a minute left in the third period to force overtime before Beach and Colton Sceviour iced the game in a shootout. Brent Henke scored the Canes other goal on the power play helping Lethbridge to a solid 2 for 6 with the man advantage. The Canes blasted Prince Albert goaltender Steven Stanford as they outshot the 'Pirates' 51-31 including a 29 shot third period.

Game time is set for 7:00 PM and fans are reminded that for every Wednesday regular season game, Hurricanes Season Ticket Holders have the option of trading in any unused season ticket for a ticket to the Wednesday game.
