Grant And Haddad Get The Call

Wheeling, WV - Nailers rookies Alex Grant and Joey Haddad have received call-ups to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the AHL. They are the second and third Nailers called to WBS this year joining Lane Caffaro who moved up last week. Both Grant and Haddad are under contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Haddad, 20, is currently tied for second on the Nailers with 11 points (5-6-11), and his five goals are second on the squad. He scored the overtime game-winner this past Friday night in a 4-3 comeback victory at Johnstown. The native of Sydney, NS finished third in points over his last two junior seasons with the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles (QMJHL). He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on September 18, 2008.
Grant, 20, has the second-best point total among Nailers defensemen with six (4-2-6). He currently has the Nailers' best plus-minus rating of plus-4. He scored back to back goals less than 2 minutes apart in the 3rd period Saturday night against Johnstown to give the Nailers a 5-4 lead at the time.
Grant spent the majority of his junior career with the Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL) and a portion of last season with the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL). He totaled 124 points (40+84) in 222 games with Saint John, and 19 points (4+15) in 23 games with Shawinigan. He was drafted by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (118th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Both could see action as soon as this Wednesday night when the Baby Penguins travel to Hartford, Conn. to face the Wolfpack.
The Wheeling Nailers next action is this weekend with a pair of games Friday and Saturday nights at the Elmira Jackals. The Nailers next home game is Wednesday, November 25th against the Florida Everblades with 2-for-1 ticket offers courtesy of WesBanco, $1 beer night and West Virginia University Appreciation Night.
