Falcons Host The Sound Tigers Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers will play each other for the second time in a week. This will be the second of 10 meetings between these two teams this year. Last Friday, the Falcons defeated the Sound Tigers 5-2 at The Nest. The Falcons struck first in the game with a power play goal by Liam Reddox in the first period. Later in the period, Bridgeport tied it up with a Matt Martin power play goal. Springfield answered back quickly with a goal by Chad Wiseman only 15 seconds later. The Falcons exploded in the second period with three early goals by Colton Fretter (PP), Wiseman, and Colin McDonald to give the Falcons a 5-1 lead. Bridgeport scored a goal in the second period by Brett Westgarth to cut their deficit to 5-2.

Springfield's Charles Linglet is 7th in the AHL and he leads the Falcons in points this season with 17 (5 G, 12 A). The leading goal scorer for the Falcons so far this season is Chris Minard, with nine markers in 11 games. Linglet leads the team with a plus/minus rating of +9. Starting goalie Devan Dubnyk has posted a 2.79 GAA and.926 save percentage in 13 games this season.

Bridgeport has three players with at least five goals and three players with at least six assists. Greg Moore leads all Sound Tigers with 11 points (5 G, 6 A) on the year. Also leading the offense for Bridgeport are Trevor Smith (6 G, 4 A, 10 P), Greg Mauldin (7 G, 2 A, 9 P), Sean Bentivoglio (3 G, 5 A, 8 P), Jesse Joensuu (1 G, 6 A, 7 P), and Andrew MacDonald (1 G, 6 A, 7 P). Nathan Lawson (7 GP, 2.44 GAA,.924 SV %) and Scott Munroe (8 GP, 2.98 GAA,.904 SV %) lead the Bridgeport goaltenders this season.

Springfield comes into the game on a two-game winning streak and an overall record of 7-5-2-1 good for 17 points. The Falcons have gone 6-2-2-1 in their last 11 games. The last game Springfield played was this past Sunday when they defeated the Portland Pirates 2-1 in Portland. Ryan O'Marra and Colin McDonald scored in the win, while goaltender Devan Dubnyk stopped 39 of 40 shots, marking the 12th time this season Dubnyk ended the game with at least 30 saves. The Falcons will host the Albany River Rats on Sunday to end this weekend's play.

Bridgeport has lost five straight games and six of their last seven games. The Sound Tigers started the season 4-0-0-0, but since have posted a 3-10-0-0 record. Last weekend, Bridgeport lost all three contests, falling to Springfield 5-2, Hartford 4-1, and Lowell 3-2. Following tonight's game, the Sound Tigers will travel to Glens Falls, NY to take on the Adirondack Phantoms on Saturday and host the Portland Pirates on Sunday.

Falcons Transactions: On Saturday, November 7, the Edmonton Oilers recalled two Falcons players: Ryan Potulny and Liam Reddox. So far this season for Springfield, Potulny has played in 14 games recording 3 goals, 5 assists, and 8 points. Reddox has appeared in 13 games, tallying 3 goals, 1 assist, and 4 points.

On Tuesday, November 10, the NHL's Edmonton Oilers recalled Falcons forward Ryan O'Marra. O'Marra made his NHL debut Tuesday during the Oilers and Senators game in Ottawa. O'Marra has recorded 4 points (2 G, 2 A) and 16 PIM in 15 games for Springfield this year. On Thursday, the Oilers assigned O'Marra back to the Falcons.

On Wednesday, November 11, the Springfield Falcons recalled forward Jamie Bates from their ECHL affiliate, the Stockton Thunder. Bates has previously played in five career AHL games for the Norfolk Admirals in the 2007-08 campaign, recording one assist and nine penalty minutes. Bates has averaged a-point-a-game this year with the Thunder scoring six goals and adding five assists for 11 points in 11 games. Last season for Stockton, Bates had 16 goals, 32 assists, 48 points, and 84 PIM.
