Lucky Fan Wins Opening Day Trip On 'Claws Through Choose Your Champ

November 12, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL) Lakewood BlueClaws

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws, Single- A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced on Thursday that Marc Rosenthal of Princeton, NJ was the winner of the "CHOOSE YOUR CHAMP" World Series Prediction Contest.

Fans of the BlueClaws and its sister team in Trenton were asked to submit predictions for the outcome of the 2009 World Series. The most accurate prediction of the winning team, number of games and World Series MVP would win an all-expenses paid trip for two people to go to the Phillies or Yankees 2010 Regular Season Home Opener. Since the Yankees won, the BlueClaws will be picking up the tab.

The contest received over 1,000 entries within just 48 hours of its announcement. No contestant correctly guessed the "Yankees", "6 Games" and "Hideki Matsui as MVP". As a tie-breaker, all entries that had selected Yankees and either 6 Games or Matsui were put into a hat and a winner was randomly selected.

"I found out about the contest through my company," said Rosenthal, who picked the Yankees to win in 6 games with CC Sabathia as the MVP. "I suppose it was a good guess that it happened." Rosenthal has chosen to attend NY Yankee Opening Day.

"Congrats to Marc on winning 'Choose Your Champ,' " said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "The Phillies gave it a great shot, but rules are rules. We'll make sure Marc has a great time."

The 2010 season will mark the BlueClaws tenth season of play, and the team will have a new logo and new uniforms for the first time in team history.

The BlueClaws won their second South Atlantic League title in 2009, and led the league in attendance for the ninth straight year. The team also won the league's Club Merit Award and became the fastest in New Jersey and SAL history to reach 4-million fans.
