Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St.Michael's Majors and Kingston Frontenacs battled back and forth all game but it would be the Majors taking the two points in a 6-5 victory this afternoon at the Hershey Centre. The win improves Mississauga's record to 14-4-1-0 on the season.Kingston took advantage of several Majors turnovers in the first period and Nathan Moon but the Frontenacs up 1-0 on a deflection that landed right on the Kingston forward's stick, for an easy tap-in. Nathan Werek made it a two goal advantage for Kingston; both goals came just under four minutes into the game. Devante Smith-Pelly got the Majors back into the game to cut the lead in half. Nine minutes later Casey Cizikas tied the game for Mississauga after deflecting Brett Flemming's shot, for his ninth of the season. Taylor Doherty picked up his first goal of the season to give Kingston a 3-2 lead in an action packed opening period.
The Majors picked up the intensity in the second period scoring four goals. Devante Smith-Pelly added his twelfth and thirteenth goals in the period, completing his hat-trick. Ryan Lopes and Corey Bureau were the other goal scorers for the Majors.
Kingston made a late run in the third period with goals from Cameron Odam, and Corey Durocher but it wasn't enough to topple the Majors. Smith-Pelly's hat-trick was the second time this season Kingston has given up a three goal performance to the Majors. William Wallen had three goals the previous meeting October 21 in Kingston.
Chris Carrozzi and J.P. Anderson combined for 25 saves, with Anderson recording his seventh win of the season. Tyler Beskorowany and John Cullen also split duties combing for 37 saves and the loss is goes to Beskorowany. With the hat-trick, Devante Smith-Pelly also received "First Star" honours. Brett Flemming, and Kingston defenceman Erik Gudbranson round out the games "Three Stars."
The Majors will be in action on Wednesday November 11th when they host the Kitchener Rangers at 11:00 a.m. The game will also mark the second annual "School Day Game." A special on-ice ceremony with the Toronto Scottish Regiment and CBC's Don Cherry will take place before the game.
