Surge bitten by two Fire Antz' shorthanded goals

November 6, 2009 - Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) Mississippi Surge

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Mississippi Surge

Fayetteville's Robert Sich got the FireAntz on the board with his sixth goal of the season at 14:46, picking up the rebound of a shot from the outside by Chris Leveille and firing it past Ryan Senft for a shorthand goal and a 1-0 Fayetteville lead.

Mississippi evened the score just 28 seconds later when Tom Boudreau took a pass from Chris Ferazzoli and fired it through the five hole of Fire Antz goalie Bryan Bridges at 15:14.

The Fire Antz grabbed the lead back when Brett McConnachie picked up the rebound of a shot by Emery Olauson and hammered it past Senft for Fayetteville's second shorthand goal of the game at 5:19 of the second. Matt Zultek kept his six-game point streak alive, banging home the rebound of Chris Ferazzoli's shot on the power play at 6:47 of the second.

The Surge fell behind when Robert Sich potted his second of the game, firing a wrist shot past Senft when he and Leveille broke into the Mississippi end on a two-on-none rush at 11:31 of the second.

Ryan Senft made 26 saves to earn the loss, and the Surge were 2-for-7 on the power play.
