FRESNO, CA - The Fresno Grizzlies have been named "Best Local Sports Team" in the 2009 Best of Fresno Awards, handed out in the current issue of Fresno Magazine. The November edition of the publication issued awards for the best the city has to offer in dining, people, shopping, lifestyle and more. All winners will be honored at the Best of Fresno Party on November 17th at the Veterans Memorial Building in Clovis.The Grizzlies beat out Fresno State Football and Fresno State Baseball, who finished second and third respectively in the voting, for the "Best Local Sports Team" honor. Ballots for the Best of Fresno awards, now in their sixth year of existence, were sent to Fresno Magazine readers earlier this year before being tallied last month.
This is the second consecutive year in which the Grizzlies have been presented with a Best of Fresno award. In 2008, the Grizzlies were honored with the "Best Family Entertainment" distinction.
"This is a tremendous honor that shows how much pride the community has in this team," said Andrew Stuebner, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Grizzlies. "To be named 'Best Family Entertainment' one year and 'Best Local Sports Team' the next is a real testament to the Grizzlies experience here at Chukchansi Park."
The Fresno Grizzlies return to Chukchansi Park on Friday, April 16 for their home opener of the 2010 season.
