The Portland Winterhawks fell 4-0 to the B.C. Division-leading Vancouver Giants Wednesday at the Rose Garden.Vancouver struck first with a quick goal by Craig Cunningham off a rebound at 4:06 of the first period to put the Giants up 1-0, which would hold going into the first intermission.
The Giants increased their score to 2-0 in the second period when Milan Kytnar managed to get the puck past Portland netminder Kurtis Mucha at the 4:18 mark.
At the 13:25 mark of the third period, Cunningham found the back of the net for the second time on a Vancouver power play to give the Giants a 3-0 lead. Kevin Connauton later added to their lead at the16:08 mark when he fired the puck past Mucha to round out the scoring at 4-0.
Jamie Tucker earned the win for the Giants with 24 saves, while Mucha took the loss with 36 saves on the evening.
The puck drops again at the Rose Garden when the Hawks take on the Seattle Thunderbirds Saturday, November 7th at 7 p.m. Saturday's game also marks the first televised game for the Winterhawks this season with the game appearing on Comcast Channel 15.
