The Saskatoon Blades achieved a season-high seventh straight victory with a 2-1 decision over the Swift Current Broncos on Wednesday night at home.Curtis Hamilton (Kelowna, BC) and Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK) scored for the Blades, who also won their 13th game in last 14.
The Broncos grabbed a 1-0 lead towards the end of the first period, while on the power play. Cody Eakin tipped an Eric Doyle point shot for his 18th goal of the season.
Hamilton tied the game eight minutes into the second period. Josh Nicholls (Tsawwassen, BC) started the play by the carrying the puck across the Broncos' blue line and getting a shot on net. Jeremy Boyer's (Saskatoon, SK) rebound chance was also stopped by Broncos' goaltender Morgan Clark. However, Hamilton jumped on a loose puck at the top of the crease and put home his 7th of the season.
Four minutes into the third period the Blades went up 2-1, a lead they would not relinquish. Inglis grabbed a loose puck along the left half wall and took a hard wrist shot on Clark that was stopped. The second-year Blade grabbed the rebound on his backhand and slid it past Clark's pad for his 5th on the campaign.
Steven Stanford (Calgary, AB) won his fifth sixth consecutive decision since joining the Blades on October 5th, making 22 saves in net. On the flip side, Clark stopped 30 of 32 shots to take the loss.
Final score Saskatoon 2, Swift Current 1.
The win takes the Blades' season mark to 15-3-0-2 for 32 points, tops in the Western Hockey League. The Broncos, meanwhile, fall to 9-9-0-1 for 19 points on the season.
The busy stretch for the Blades continues on Friday when they are in Regina to take on the Pats.
