Bloomington, Ill. (November 4, 2009) - The Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, Wednesday night fell 6-3 to the host Bloomington PrairieThunder as Jamie Carroll led the Bloomington attack with one goal and two assists.Terry Harrison gave the Mallards a 1-0 lead with a drive from the high slot at 5:56 of the first period, but the game would turn for the PrairieThunder not long after.
The Thunder bounced back to strike twice before the end of the opening period and take a 2-1 lead into first intermission. Carroll scored on a 2-on-1 to even the score at 15:49 of the first; the Thunder was on the power play when Russ Smith's blue line blast put Bloomington on top at 17:29.
Each team was down a man when Jesse Dudas drove the PrairieThunder's third straight goal home from the right point to make it 3-1 at 5:19 of the second period.
A wild third period saw the Thunder outscore the Mallards 3-2 to close out the win. Matt McIlvane made it 4-1 at 4:21 of the third with what would prove to be the game winning goal. The Mallards rebounded to trim the gap to two goals when Patrick Levesque scored with a backhander just 27 seconds later. Jon Booras scored Bloomington's second power play goal from the left wing circle to stretch the Thunder lead to 5-2 at 7:08. The Mallards were on the power play- and up 6-on-4 after goaltender Sebastien Laplante was pulled- when Obi Aduba scored from close range to make it 5-3 at 15:13. The Mallards would pull the netminder again moments later, but this time the maneuver did not work out as well for Quad City as Bloomington's Bill Bagron finished off the Flock with an empty net goal at 16:19.
The Mallards return home Saturday night to take on the Muskegon Lumberjacks at 7:00 p.m. The first 1,000 fans ages 12-and-under through the doors for that game will receive a free Mallards mini-stick courtesy of Reynolds Ford.
