Barnstormers Extend Manager Tom Herr's Contract

November 3, 2009 - Atlantic League (AtL) Lancaster Barnstormers

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Lancaster Barnstormers have extended the contract of manager Tom Herr. The Lancaster native has signed a multiyear deal and will begin his fourth season with the team next spring.

Herr has a winning history in the Atlantic League. In 2006, one year after taking the reins of the Barnstormers for their inaugural season, he guided them to the championship. He has produced a winning record in four of the five halves he has managed in Lancaster and holds a.528 winning percentage. The 2006 team finished 75-51, earned first- and second-half division titles and went undefeated through the playoffs. It remains the only team in the history of the league to accomplish that feat.

"I"˜m thrilled to be coming back for the 2010 season and am looking forward to building a championship caliber team," Herr said. "I'm happy to have a quality job like this in my hometown and am excited about creating the same type of atmosphere we had here when we won the championship."

Herr played 12 seasons in the major leagues and was an All-Star second baseman with the St. Louis Cardinals. He appeared in three World Series, winning the title in 1982. Since he became a manager, the Hempfield High graduate has shown a keen eye for talent and a knack for putting a winning formula together. Herr will play a major role in constructing the Barnstormers' roster in 2010. Former Vice President of Baseball Operations, Keith Lupton will be available to play an advisory role..

"We're excited that Tom is returning," Barnstormers president Jon Danos said. "He has shown he knows what it takes to build a winner and we're looking forward to having a successful team next season and beyond."

Herr will be at Clipper Magazine Stadium to watch Game 6 of the World Series between the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees Wednesday, starting at 6:30 p.m. The skipper will mingle with fans and will be available for interviews with the media.
