Burlington, IA (November 2, 2009) - The Burlington Bees recently made a donation of $440 to Community Action of Southeast Iowa's Neighborhood Center as part of the Midwest League's On-Field Behavior Policy. Each season, the Midwest League collects fines from players and coaches who violate the On-Field Behavior Policy. Then the league distributes the fine money evenly to each member team, and asks them to give it to a deserving group or organization in their community.
"The Midwest League does a great job in turning a negative thing into a positive one," said Bees General Manager Chuck Brockett. "We're very happy to be able to donate this money to an organization like this that does so much in our community."
Located at 700 Jefferson Street in Burlington, Community Action of Southeast Iowa's Neighborhood Center serves low-income families and individuals with programs such as: Head Start, Family Development and Self-Sufficiency, Energy Assistance, and Medication Assistance. They also run a Share-Self Help and Resource Exchange Program that provides a monthly list of packages of food at a variety of prices with two hours of community volunteer work.
"With heating bills beginning to rise, the upcoming holidays, and the ongoing unsettled economic picture, the need for help is very high right now," Executive Director Sharon Ford stated. "We very much appreciate the donations from the community and, particularly, from our very own Burlington Bees."
