Mississauga, ON- The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors got back to their winning ways with a 3-1 victory over the Sudbury Wolves this afternoon at the Hershey Centre. The win improves the Majors to 12-4-0-0 on the season. After falling at the hands of the Attack last night in Owen Sound, the Majors came out strong but couldn't find the back of the net. Wolves goaltender Andrew Loverock robbed William Wallen of a sure tap-in six minutes into the game. It appeared Wallen was target number one for the Wolves as the speedy Mississauga forward was the recipient of many big hits in the first period.
Dustin Ekelman put the Majors on the board just over a minute into the second period to open scoring after a slow first period. Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi continued his solid play this afternoon; kicking out a hard shot from Kristoff Kontos early in the second, minutes later Carrozzi robbed Marcus Foligno to keep the score at 1-0 for Mississauga. The Majors struggled again on the power play in the period, forward Casey Cizikas hit the post on two separate occasions. Marcus Foligno rushed down and had a clear path at net before defenceman Blake Parlett hurried back to break-up the play and ended any chance of Sudbury tying the game.
Wolves Captain John Kurtz tied the game just under four minutes into the final period with his sixth goal of the season. Cizikas ended his five game scoreless drought on the power play to put Mississauga ahead 2-1 with under three minutes in regulation. Cizikas would add another into an empty net to finish the game with two goals and an assist along with first star honours. Carrozzi made 21 saves to record his seventh win for the Majors and third star honours, while Loverock stopped 32 shots for Sudbury and was named the game's "Second Star."
The Majors will head to Niagara to meet the IceDogs on Thursday night, then head home for two games next weekend. The Belleville Bulls make their first trip of the season to Mississauga on Friday night at 7:30, and then the Kingston Frotenacs come in on Sunday afternoon at 2:00.
