MYRTLE BEACH, SC - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans have announced their schedule and home game times for the 2010 Carolina League season. The club will once again play 70 regular season home games at BB&T Coastal Field, beginning with the home opener against the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Thursday, April 8th at 7:05 PM.In addition to the 70 regular season contests at BB&T Coastal Field, the Pelicans are also proud to host the 2010 Carolina vs. California League All-Star Game. The stars of tomorrow will head to the Grand Strand for the mid-summer classic in June. Festivities will kick off with a Gala on June 21st followed by the All Star Game on Tuesday, June 22nd. The last time the event was held in Myrtle Beach, BB&T Coastal Field boasted a sell-out crowd of 6,599 fans and featured current major league players Matt Wieters, Baltimore Orioles, and Pablo Sandoval, San Francisco Giants. Tickets for the game are slated to go on sale December 1st, 2009.
The Pelicans will also have their second consecutive July 4th game, with the 2009 contest being the first ever opportunity for Myrtle Beach to host a home game on Independence Day. Other highlights to the 2010 season include School Kids Day which features a 10:35 AM start on May 26th as the Pelicans host the Lynchburg Hillcats and another great fireworks show for Father's Day on June 19th.
The Pelicans will play 20 games (10 home - 10 road) against each of the other seven teams in the Carolina League. The affiliations of those clubs remain the same from this past season. Once again in 2010, standard game times at BB&T Coastal Field will be at 7:05 PM, with the exception of Sunday games, which will begin at 6:05 PM. There are five exceptions to standard game times with starts of 3:05 for the first three Sunday games in the beginning of the season (April 11th vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks, May 2nd vs. Frederick Keys, and May 16th vs. Salem Red Sox). School Kids Day on May 26th will have a 10:35 AM start and the Pelicans will also play a 6:05 game on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th complete with post-game fireworks.
For the eighth consecutive year, the Pelicans will open their season against the Blue Rocks. The 'Birds hit the road after their opening four-game series (4/8 - 4/11 vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks) to return again on Monday, April 19th for another four games against the Dash (4/19 - 4/22 vs. Winston-Salem Dash).
