Jackals Acquire Tifu From Salmon Kings

October 27, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Elmira Jackals News Release

Off to their best start at 5-0 since joining the ECHL, the Elmira Jackals announced today that they have acquired winger Yannick Tifu from the Victoria Salmon Kings in exchange for future considerations.

Tifu will once again skate for Jackals coach Steve Martinson, as he played for Martinson in 2005-2006 with the Rockford IceHogs, where he was tied for third in scoring with 72 points (23-49). Furthermore, current Jackals forwards Olivier Proulx and Chaz Johnson were linemates with Tifu in Rockford.

Tifu has been one of the top ECHL point producers per game over the last three seasons. The Brossard, Quebec native had 33 points (6-27) in 24 games with the Florid Everblades in 2008-2009 and was second on the Dayton Bombers in scoring in 2007-2008 with 57 points (15-42) despite playing in only 39 games. Tifu was third in the ECHL in scoring in 2006-2007 with 88 points (28-60), leading the Bombers.

"Yannick has proven to be one of the league's premiere playmakers," Martinson said. "I am sure he will start producing once he gets in the lineup."

The Jackals will attempt to sell out their third straight game since joining the ECHL when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday, October 30 at 7:35 PM. Poster schedules will be provided by Corning, Inc. On Saturday, October 31 the Jackals will host the Trenton Devils, and fans are invited to trick or treat at First Arena. Fans in attendance will receive glow sticks from Party Time.
