LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws, Single- A Affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, have announced they have entered into a challenge with the Trenton Thunder (Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees) in the first "CHOOSE YOUR CHAMP" World Series Prediction Contest.Fans of the Thunder and the BlueClaws can submit emails predicting the outcome of the 2009 World Series. If the Phillies win the World Series, the winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two people to go to the Phillies 2010 Regular Season Home Opener courtesy of the Thunder. If the Yankees win the World Series, the winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip for two people to go to the Yankees 2010 Regular Season Home Opener courtesy of the BlueClaws.
"For a series that divides New Jersey, it makes perfect sense for a little friendly wager between affiliates," said BlueClaws General Manager Geoff Brown. "We look forward to the Thunder getting a great Phillies fan Opening Day tickets next year."
Transportation to the game, two tickets to Opening Day, World Series merchandise and meals will be included in the package.
"We are glad the BlueClaws have accepted our challenge to participate in this contest," said Thunder General Manager, Will Smith. "It's exciting to know that so many people in this region, including the two franchises, will be invested in the outcome of the series."
To be eligible, fans must email chooseyourchamp@trentonthunder.com and select the winner of the 2009 World Series, the amount of games necessary, and the MVP of the series. Predictions must be received before the first pitch of Wednesday's Game One.
The person with the correct prediction will be notified shortly after the completion of the series. In the case of multiple correct submissions, the Thunder and the BlueClaws will choose, at random, the grand-prize winner. With your entry, please include your full name, home town, and phone number.
The 2010 season will mark the BlueClaws tenth season of play, and the team will have a new logo and new uniforms for the first time in team history.
The BlueClaws won their second South Atlantic League title in 2009, and led the league in attendance for the ninth straight year. The team also won the league's Club Merit Award and became the fastest in New Jersey and SAL history to reach 4-million fans.
