Cardinals Shining In Arizona Fall League

October 22, 2009 - Texas League (TL) Springfield Cardinals

While the majority of baseball fans are tuned into the two Championship Series, eight members of the St. Louis minor league system are extending their season in the Arizona Fall League. Daryl Jones and Tyler Henley both homered in Arizona Fall League action on Wednesday, as their Surprise Rafters club outslugged the Peoria Saguaros by a score of 10-9.

Eight games into the Fall League season, the eight members of the St. Louis Cardinals assigned to the Rafters, have helped them to a 5-3 second-place mark in the six-team league.

Joining Jones and Henley on the Rafters squad are three members from the 2009 Springfield team, infielder Daniel Descalso and pitchers Gary Daley and Scott Gorgen. Former Springfield Cardinals pitcher Mike Parisi and catcher Bryan Anderson are both on the club, after each missed most of the 2009 regular season due to injury. The final member of the Rafters with St. Louis ties is Adam Reifer, who was the closer in Palm Beach this year and figures to play a prominent role in the Springfield bullpen in 2010.

The 2009 Arizona Fall League season is composed of a 32-game schedule and runs through mid-November. This season's Surprise Rafters club features players not just from the St. Louis organization, but the Kansas City Royals, the Texas Rangers, the New York Mets and the New York Yankees.
