Rockets move defenceman to Red Deer

October 21, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release

The Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League have traded defenceman Aaron Borejko to the Red Deer Rebels for a fourth round bantam draft pick in 2010.

An Edmonton native, Borejko, 18, played in 50 games last season with the Rockets and had played in all 11 games for the Rockets this season.

"We had an abundance of defencemen and we had the opportunity to pick up a significant draft pick in return," said Rockets general manager Bruce Hamilton. "Aaron is going to have a chance to play in Red Deer's top four and we want to get some ice time for our younger defencemen."

The move leaves the Rockets with seven defencemen including four rookies.

"We have some younger guys that are going to have to play more minutes to develop," said Hamilton.

The Rockets are getting set for a three game weekend with the team playing in Tri-City Friday night (7 p.m.) before a weekend home and home with Vancouver. The Rockets and Giants play at Prospera on Saturday night (7 p.m.) and in Vancouver on Sunday (5 p.m.).
