Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today signed forward Joel Irving to the roster and traded defenseman Kurtis Dulle (DEW-lee) to the Colorado Eagles in exchange for future considerations.

Irving, 33, led the Arizona Sundogs with 35 goals and 69 points last season. The Lumsden, Saskatchewan, native appeared in all 64 games with Arizona, potted 12 power play goals and added 116 PIM. His 35 goals ranked third-best in the CHL and he led the team with five game-winning tallies. Irving was voted the league's 'Best Power Forward' in the CHL's annual Best of the Best poll and was named a starter in the 2009 CHL All-Star Game. He recorded a goal in the CHL All Star Team's 8-4 loss to the Colorado Eagles.

"Joel is a power forward who is dangerous on the power play and brings great leadership qualities to the team," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "Unfortunately we had to move Kurtis to make room for Joel. When you add a player of his caliber and pay, you have to depart with a player of similar caliber and pay. That is the business side of things."

Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1994 NHL Draft out of the University of Western Michigan, Irving turned pro in 1999, playing with both the Saint John Flames (AHL) and Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL). He finished second in scoring for the Chiefs that season with 46 points (26-20-46). He was a member of the ECHL Champion South Carolina Stingrays in 2000-01. In addition to his time in Saint John, he has also logged AHL games with the Rochester Americans.

Dulle appeared in two games this season for RGV and posted one assist and six PIM. The 29-year-old is in his fifth full professional season. He played full seasons for RGV in 2005-06 and 2008-09 plus part of 2006-07. He ranks sixth all-time on the franchise list for regular season games played (157) and departs with 67 points (21-46-67) along with 238 PIM as a Killer Bee.

The Killer Bees host the Corpus Christi IceRays at Dodge Arena this Saturday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. The first 2000 fans get ThunderStix. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at all TicketMaster outlets including the Dodge Arena Box Office. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
