San Jose Giants Announce 2010 Schedule

SAN JOSE, CA- The defending California League champion San Jose Giants unveiled their 2010 schedule today. The 23rd season of the San Jose Giants affiliation with the San Francisco Giants begins on Thursday, April 8th at Modesto with the home opener set for Monday, April 12th against the Visalia Rawhide. The Opening Night Extravaganza will include a post-game fireworks display, 2010 magnet schedule giveaway, a special ceremony honoring the 2009 championship team and much more.

The San Jose Giants 70 home game schedule is anticipated to include the return of KRTY Country Thursdays, KFOX Family Fridays, MIX 106.5 Saturdays in the Park, Martinelli's Kids Run the Bases on Saturdays and Sundays along with Alliance Credit Union and San Jose Mercury News Kids Eat Free Sundays. The Giants will celebrate Independence Day with spectacular post-game fireworks extravaganzas on July 2nd and July 3rd in addition to hosting games on Mother's Day (May 9th), Memorial Day (May 31st) and Labor Day (September 6th). The return of fan favorite theme nights such as A Giant Luau, Italian Night and Japanese Heritage Night along with other new events are also expected.

The San Jose Giants had their fourth consecutive record breaking year in attendance and revenue in 2009 with over 223,000 fans enjoying games at Municipal Stadium. The Giants have produced a winning tradition of baseball claiming five championships (1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009) in the last 12 years. San Jose has also won a league record five consecutive first half Northern Division crowns while they've qualified for the playoffs in six straight years. Last season, the Giants set a team record with 93 regular season victories before sweeping the High Desert Mavericks in the best-of-five Championship Series.

The 2010 season is expected be another exciting year of San Jose Giants baseball. The San Francisco Giants Low-A affiliate, the Augusta GreenJackets, finished with the best overall record in their division last year. Additionally, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes, the short-season affiliate of the Giants, won the Northwest League championship. Many of the top players on those two clubs are expected to play for San Jose next season.
