10.17.09 - Lowell 7 - Worcester 5 - DCU Center

Tim Sestito scored four goals for the Devils to ruin the opening night at a sold out revamped DCU Center in Worcester on Saturday night to lead the Devils to a 7-5 win over the Sharks. Logan Couture scored a goal and added three assists while Steven Zalewski and Michael Wilson each added a goal and an assist. Dennis McCauley scored his first professional goal for Worcester and Tyson Sexsmith made 21 saves in net. T.J Trevelyan notched his first goal in a Sharks uniform as Worcester outshot the Devils 43-26. The game featured three fights (McCauley, Loprieno, and Mashinter).

10.18.09 - Albany 3 - Worcester 5 - DCU Center

Andrew Desjardins scored twice and added an assist and Alex Stalock made 22 saves in net as the Sharks defeated the River Rats 5-3 at the DCU Center on Sunday. Jamie McGinn had two points (1-1-2) and T.J. Trevelyan scored in his 2nd straight game for Worcester. John McCarty assisted on two goals and Logan Couture scored his third striker of the season for the Sharks. Worcester outshot the River Rats 32-25.

Sharks in the Atlantic

The Sharks are currently swimming in 4th place with seven points (3-1-0-1) in the Atlantic Division trailing Bridgeport and Providence by one point for 2nd place. The Monarchs lead the division with ten points (5-2-0-0). The Falcons are in 5th place with six points followed by the Devils with five points. The Wolf Pack and the Pirates round out the eight team division with four points in a very choppy Atlantic Division..

Shark Bites:

*Captains for the 2009-10 season: Captain Ryan Vesce (2nd year), Assistant Captains Derek Joslin (2nd year) and Mike Moore (1st year).

*Four more to 400....With the victory in Lowell, head coach Roy Sommer has 396 career victories in the AHL.

*From east to west..... The Sharks already have four players that heave seen action to both the AHL and NHL this season (McLaren, Zalewski, Vesce, and Joslin). The Sharks had 11 players accomplish that feat last season. Ryan Vesce scored his first two NHL goals in consecutive nights for San Jose.

* Mr. Assist?... Frazer McLaren has recorded two assists in two games in Worcester and added his first assist in the NHL in San Jose.... Last season, McLaren had just one assist in 75 games with Worcester and it took him 70 games to notch his first professional assist.

*You always remember your first.....Billerica, MA native Dennis McCauley scored his first professional goal on Saturday against the Devils. He joins John McCarthy and Brandon Mashinter as players that have scored their first pro goals this season.

*Young Guns....The average age of the Sharks roster is 23 which includes 12 rookies, five 2nd year players and two third year players. At the age of 28, Danny Groulx is the oldest while Nicholas Petrecki at 20 years old and three months is the youngest.

*Take the college or juniors route....the Sharks have 13 players from the college ranks (seven from hockey east), nine from juniors and two players that played in both.

*Massachusetts... The Sharks have four players born and raised in Massachusetts (John McCarthy - Boston, Corey Quirk - Brockton, Dennis McCauley - Billerica, and Joe Callahan - Brockton)

*You're tall.... Worcester has eight players over six-foot-three.

*Road Trip!....Worcester has points in eight straight regular season road games (7-0-0-1) dating back to last season (franchise record) .

*Streakers... T.J. Trevelyan has a four game point streak (2-3-5). Dan DaSilva has a three game point streak (1-2-3). Logan Couture has a three game goal scoring streak (3-4-7).

*All four years....Defenseman Derek Joslin is the only Sharks player to suit up in all four seasons in Worcester.

*You are Special... Worcester has the 4th best power play in the AHL at 26.1% (6-23).

*You can't do that in college... The Sharks have three college players that have already received their first fighting major penalty this season (Dennis McCauley, Joe Loprieno, and Nick Petrecki).

*Five for fighting...The Sharks have seven fighting major penalties this season through five games... (Brandon Mashinter 3, Dennis McCauley 1, Joe Loprieno 1, Nicholas Petrecki 1) The Sharks had 78 fighting majors last season, 68 fighting majors in 2007-08 and 54 in 2006-07.

Sharks in the Pacific:

The San Jose Sharks are 5-3-0-1 in the NHL this season and are currently in first place atop the Pacific Divison.

Ryan Vesce has goals in back-to-back games including his first NHL goal in Long Island on Saturday. Jason Demers has seven points (0-7-7) and leads the team with a +5 through nine games. Brad Staubitz scored his first goal of the season Monday in New York.

Former Worcester Shark Devin Setoguchi has nine points (7-2-9) through nine games.
