PrairieThunder obtains Carroll in tradeOctober 16, 2009 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2) - Bloomington PrairieThunder Press Release
Once the dust had settled high-scoring forward Jamie Carroll, the eighth-leading scorer in the league last season with 80 points for Port Huron, was a member of the PrairieThunder along with free agent right winger Zach Pearson.
The move to sign Pearson was necessitated when veteran Bloomington forward Jan Jas was placed on league suspension because of immigration issues. Jas will not be able to play until he clears immigration standards.
"It's unfortunate that an issue like this can't get resolved earlier,'' said Skalde. "We have been counting on Jan to be a big part of our team after what he showed last season. Some time the immigration paperwork process can take longer than anticipated."
Pearson, who played in 56 games for Flint last season and scored 44 points (18 goals, 26 assists), became a free agent earlier in the week when he was released by Dayton.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound White Lake, Mich., native, who is in his third professional season, will be in the lineup for Saturday's 6 p.m. game at Muskegon and Sunday's 4 p.m. contest at Dayton. He will wear No. 9.
Skalde was obviously thrilled to acquire Carroll's rights in a trade with Port Huron for the rights to Derek Patrosso. The PrairieThunder acquired Patrosso early Friday in a deal with Flint for future considerations.
"Jamie Carroll is a proven, quality player in this league," said Skalde. "He's proven he can put up numbers. I'm excited to have his big body and a guy who can drive to the net. He will also provide leadership in the room."
The 6-1, 200-pound Carroll, who turns 26 on Oct. 25, played the first two seasons of his pro career with Port Huron.
The Andover, Conn. native had 28 goals and 53 assists for 80 points in 73 games last year. He finished third in the league in shots (282), fifth in power play assists (24) and third in game-winning goals with six. He was a member of the IHL all-rookie team in 2007-08.
Carroll, who will wear No. 28, will not be action this weekend. His first game with the PrairieThunder will be Oct. 23 at Fort Wayne. Tickets for all 38 PrairieThunder home games are on sale at the U.S. Coliseum box office or on online at www.ticketmaster.com or by calling 800-745-3000 and 309-585-0507, ext. 304.
