Lethbridge, AB - Tickets are now on sale for the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5th Annual Celebrity Sports Dinner and Auction! This annual event will play host to former NHL goaltender, Head Coach and Two time Stanley Cup Champion - Gerry Cheevers as the evening's keynote speaker. Cheevers' pro hockey career began in 1956 as a 16 year old playing for the St. Mikes Majors of the Ontario Hockey Association. He was drafted by the Boston Bruins in 1965 and was a part of the Bruins 1970 and 1972 Stanley Cup Championship teams and gained a reputation as a driven and aggressive goaltender. He finished out his career in 1980 and then took on the job as the Bruins Head Coach for four and a half seasons. His well known, stitch-pattern mask, with its painted on stitches for every shot he took off of it has become an iconic image of the era and is now in the Hockey Hall of Fame.The event will be hosted by the always entertaining "Cabbie" from the Score. Cabral "Cabbie" Richards, a native of Toronto, ON successfully pitched his show "Cabbie on the Street" to The Score Television Network and has been going strong ever since. He has interviewed some of the biggest names in all of sport. The evening will conclude with a performance from Country music star Trevor Panczak!
This event is scheduled for 6 PM Friday, November 27th, 2009 at the El Rancho Convention Centre (526 Mayor Magrath Drive South). The silent auction will be running throughout the evening and a live auction will conclude the evening and includes several rare and unique sports memorabilia items. This event has sold out each year since its inception and has raised over $158,000 for community organizations and charities benefiting the community of Lethbridge and the surrounding area.
