(Rochester, October 10)... The Rochester Americans could not contain the Albany River Rats tonight, losing 6-1 at the Times Union Center. The loss ended Rochester's two-game point streak.
The Rats (2-1-0-0) were led by a four-point night from Jerome Samson (1+3) and three-point efforts from Stefan Chaput (1+2) and Drayson Bowman (1+2). David Brine netted the lone Rochester goal to deny Albany goalie Mike Murphy's shut out bid. Murphy finished the night with 28 saves.
Albany opened the scoring at 7:31 of the first on a goal by Nick Dodge. In the second, the Rats strung together three straight tallies to make it 4-0 and chased Amerks starter Tyler Plante from the Rochester goal. Plante ended the night with 10 saves on 13 shots. Rookie Alexander Salak, who just arrived today from Florida, finished the game with 12 saves on 15 shots. Salak gave up a power-play goal to Samson at 14:28 of the second period, which was the Rats' fourth goal of the night. Albany was two for eight on the power play.
In the third, Albany increased its lead to 6-0 on goals by Chaput and Zack FitzGerald. The River Rats had another great opportunity but Salak stopped Dodge on a penalty shot at 12:27. Brine then netted Rochester's only goal at 13:57 from Brady Calla.
The Amerks return home on Monday, October 12th for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Syracuse Crunch. The contest will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. The game will also be televised live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
