COMSTOCK PARK- It's October and the high school football season in West Michigan is in full swing. Fifth Third Ballpark will host some great gridiron action in the next two weeks. Forest Hills Northern will take the field against Coopersville tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.Forest Hills Northern is 2-4 on the season. They find themselves locked in a three-way tie for fifth place in the OK Blue Conference. The Huskies lost to Coopersville, 42-14, last season. The Broncos sport a 4-2 record and look to remain unbeaten in OK Blue play.
"Playing at Fifth Third Ballpark is a great community event for us," said Forest Hills Northern Athletic Director John Dolce. " Last year we brought a lot of people out to the ballpark and it's going to be a great night for our students, athletes and staff. Games like this are great family fun and that's what high school sports are all about."
The Huskies and Broncos boy's soccer teams will also play at the ballpark on Friday. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m. and gates open at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and are good for both the soccer and football games.
This is the third season Fifth Third Ballpark has hosted football games. Grand Valley State University took on Wayne State University in 2007. In 2008, Catholic Central played Ottawa Hills and Forest Hills Northern took on Cedar Springs. Last week Michigan Tech hooked up with Ferris State University in the "Battle at the Ballpark."
"Fifth Third Ballpark is becoming an all-purpose venue," said Whitecaps Facility Events Manager Dan Glowinski. "We are happy to be hosting our fifth football game here at the ballpark and we look forward to hosting many more marquee events in the future."
Catholic Central and Caledonia will square off in the final football game of the year at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets for both football games can be purchased at the West Michigan Glass Block Ticket Office at Fifth Third Ballpark, by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
