Wolves Name Krog Seventh Captain In Franchise History

October 3, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL) Chicago Wolves

The Chicago Wolves have named center JASON KROG team captain for the 2009-10 season.

The 33-year old forward becomes the seventh player in franchise history to don the "C" after Steve Maltais (1994-1996 and 1997-2005), Troy Murray (1996-97), Kevin Dahl (2000-01), Derek MacKenzie (2005-06), Darren Haydar (2007-08) and Jamie Rivers (2008-09).

Center KEVIN DOELL and defenseman NATHAN OYSTRICK have been named alternate captains for the season.

"All three of these players were members of our Calder Cup champion team in 2008 and understand the leadership that is necessary for a team to achieve that kind of success," said Wolves General Manager WENDELL YOUNG. "These three are proven winners who understand the expectations of the Chicago Wolves organization."

KROG is making his return to the Wolves this season after spending last year with the Manitoba Moose and Vancouver Canucks. The Fernie, British Columbia, native appeared in 124 games with Chicago from 2006 to 2008, and ranks eighth all-time in franchise history with 192 points (65G, 127A). During his time in Chicago, he became the third player in the 74-year history of the AHL, and the first since 1985, to lead the league in goals (39), assists (73) and points (112) - all career-highs and franchise records for a center - after skating in all 80 regular-season games in 2007-08.

KROG also became the first player in AHL history to capture both regular season and postseason MVP honors in 2007-08, and skated in all 24 playoff contests en route to helping the Wolves capture the 2008 Calder Cup championship, which includes notching a hat trick and four points in the Cup-clinching Game 6 on June 10, 2008.

The Wolves open their 16th season against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Allstate Arena tonight at 7 p.m., which also marks the first game in the Amtrak Rivalry series. For tickets, call 1-800-THE-WOLVES or visit chicagowolves.com.
