Stampede Announce Captains

The Sioux Falls Stampede are proud to announce their captains for the start of the 2009-10 season. The Stampede open the regular season at home tonight (Friday) against the Des Moines Buccaneers at 7:05 PM.

Chad Ruhwedel has been named captain of the team while Josh Holmstrom and Matt Lindblad will serve as "Assistant Captains."

Ruhwedel is the Stampede's top returning defenseman. The San Diego, CA native posted 11 assists and was a plus-12 in 55 games last year for the Herd. The second-year veteran had one assist and was a plus-5 in three pre-season games in September.

Holmstrom is also in his second season with the Stampede. He is the top returning forward for the Herd after recording 25 points (14g, 11a) in 58 games. The Colorado Springs, CO native posted four goals in two games at the USHL Fall Classic last weekend in Sioux City, IA. His older brother, Ben, played with the Stampede from 2003 to 2006 and was captain of the 2005-06 Anderson Cup champion team.

Lindblad enters his first season with the Stampede, but his second in the USHL. He spent last season with the Chicago Steel where he recorded 25 points (5g, 20a) in 51 games. A native of Winnetka, IL, Lindblad posted three points (1g, 2a) in two games at the Fall Classic.

The Stampede also announced they will continue to rotate captain's throughout the course of the season. After tonight, the Herd will return home this Saturday to host the Fargo Force at 7:05 PM.
