Monarchs Announce Transactions

Manchester Monarchs News Release


MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, signed forward Michael Pelech and right wing Geoff Walker to one-year contracts, and defenseman David Kolomatis to a professional tryout agreement, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today. In addition, the Monarchs made the following player transactions.

Pelech, 19, appeared in 68 games with the Ontario Hockey League's Mississauga St. Michael's Majors during the 2008-09 season. The 6-foot-3, 206-pound native of Toronto, Ontario led the Majors with 65 points (19-46=65). Selected by the Kings in the sixth-round (156th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Pelech played the last four seasons in the OHL with Mississauga, the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and the Kitchener Rangers. He was also assigned to the ECHL's Ontario Reign today.

Walker, 21, led the Reign with 48 points (21-27=48) during the 2008-09 season. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound native of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island spent three seasons (2005-08) with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Prince Edward Island Rocket. Walker registered 196 points (83-113=196) and 213 penalty minutes in 168 games with the Rocket.

Kolomatis, 20, made his professional debut with the Providence Bruins on April 4, 2009 and played in four scoreless regular season games and 16 playoff games. He picked up his lone point, an assist, during the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs against the Portland Pirates on April 24, 2009. The 5-foot-11, 189-pound native of Livingston, New Jersey played three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League's Owen Sound Attack, collecting 111 points (31-80=111) and 174 penalty minutes in 198 games from 2006-09. Kolomatis was selected by the Kings in the fifth-round (126th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The Monarchs open the 2009-10 season on the road with a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Albany River Rats on Saturday, October 3. Manchester's Home Opener is set for Saturday, October 17 at 7:00 p.m. versus Portland at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Make some noise at the Monarchs Home Opener by bringing a box of macaroni and chesse to shake during the game and then donate to the New Hampshire Food Bank. The first 5,000 fans to the Monarchs Home Opener will receive a magnetic schedule for the 2009-10 season.
