The Kansas City Wizards (8-11-6, 30 pts) look to continue their strong run of form in September with a Saturday match against the Colorado Rapids (10-8-8, 38 pts) at 7:30 p.m. CT at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The Wizards are 3-1-0 in the month of September, including back-to-back wins over the New York Red Bulls and FC Dallas. Colorado enters after a pair of ties against the San Jose Earthquakes with stoppage-time equalizers from Conor Casey proving the difference in both. Kansas City remains six points out of the final playoff spot entering Saturday's contest.
Wizards Striker Josh Wolff continued his excellent September form last Saturday with his 4th goal of the month in a come-from-behind win over FC Dallas. Wolff started the month by winning MLS Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals and creating two more in a 4-2 win at the New England Revolution. He has since scored in a 1-0 win over the New York Red Bulls and last Saturday's 3-2 win over FCD to help the Wizards climb back into the MLS Cup Playoff picture. Wolff has already equaled a career high with 10 goals on the season. He enters Saturday's game tied for 5th in MLS in goals. Wolff is also closing in on 200 MLS games after playing in his 198th career contest last Saturday against FC Dallas. Should Wolff play Saturday night against Colorado, he would be on track to reach the 200-games milestone Sunday, October 4 at Houston.
Last Saturday, Kansas City received strong contributions from mid-season acquisitions Kei Kamara and Zoltan. Striker Kamara was acquired last week in trade with the Houston Dynamo and played the second half against Dallas, generating multiple scoring opportunities for the Wizards. Zoltan entered the game as a substitute and made an immediate impact, registering his first assist for the Wizards just seconds after coming onto the field. Defender Jimmy Conrad scored his first goal of the season in the 80th minute, putting Kansas City ahead for good at 3-2. Conrad now has 18 career goals, 16 of which have come in a Kansas City uniform.
