Gomez did not have the pre-season hype enjoyed by his battery mate, but burst onto the scene immediately after joining Akron from Class A Kinston April 29th. The native of Caracas, VZ won each of his first four starts for the Aeros, capped by the first perfect game in team history May 21st at Trenton. Gomez, who retired 36 consecutive batters at one point this season, is currently tied for fourth in the league with 10 wins, is second with a 3.09 ERA, and is tied for fifth with 101 strikeouts. Both he and Santana were also named to the mid-season All-Star team as members of the Southern Division squad.

The Aeros are home tonight to host the Binghamton Mets in the opener of a four-game series starting at 7:05 p.m. Left-hander Scott Barnes (1-1, 7.36 ERA) will start for Akron while Binghamton counters with southpaw Eric Niesen (2-6, 5.60 ERA). Fans will want to stick around after the game as well for another fireworks spectacular at Canal Park, courtesy of BFG Federal Credit Union. The game broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. on SportsRadio 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at (330) 253-5151.
