Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades opened the 2009-10 Exhibition Schedule with a convincing 5-1 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Raiders opened the scoring in the first period on a Sean Aschim marker.

The Blades would tie it up just over a minute later. Josh Nicholls tipped a point shot from Duncan Siemens that was stopped by Raider goaltender Jacob Edwards. However, Tyler Matheson was in perfect position for the rebound and deposited it to bring the Blades even.

The Blades would take the lead late in the second period on a great individual effort by Brent Benson. The Blades rookie forward stole the puck from Raider defenseman Ryan Aasman in the slot, turned, and fired a shot over the glove of Raider goaltender Eric Williams.

Benson would give the Blades a two-goal lead just over a minute into the third after taking a feed from Stefan Burzan in the slot and going high again on Williams.

Duncan Siemens then proceeded show some of his offensive instincts, stealing a pass in the neutral zone and carrying the puck through the defenders before being hauled down in the Raider slot for a penalty shot. The rookie defenseman would not disappoint after calming down a rolling puck on the penalty shot and fired a snap shot glove side.

Charles Inglis would wrap up the scoring going five-hole for his first of the exhibition campaign.

Chris Sharkey got the start in the Blades net making 14 saves in just under 30 minutes of work. Tyler Oswald played the second half of the game making 11 saves.
